Meet… Becky Fermer
January 31, 2022
Becky Fermer joined our team at Aworth Survey Consultants five years ago in her previous role as a trainee CAD technician/office assistant and, last year, was promoted to office administrator.
“I came across the role at Aworth and it sounded different and interesting,” Becky explains. “The role was really varied; as well as general office jobs, I got involved with map sales and CAD drawings. I had previously worked in graphic design, which I found useful, particularly when dealing with the software. My work in the CAD office included working on land surveys, measured building surveys and Land Registry plans.”
She continues: “When I first joined, I didn’t know much about surveying, as it’s quite unique and not something I’d really come across before. I soon became really interested in what we do here. We’re a close-knit team and this gave me a real insight into what everyone does. Over the years, I’ve been able to see a project develop from that first phone call to seeing it through to completion. Some of the developments we work on are high profile and it’s exciting to be part of the process.”
Becky settled in very quickly when she first arrived and, in 2018, was named as a finalist in the ‘Young Employee of the Year’ category at the Uckfield Business Awards (which was open to team members aged under 24).
“Looking back now, that was a real privilege to be part of and it really put Aworth on the map in the local area,” says Becky.
Her day-to-day role now also includes being PA to Managing Director, John Witherden, looking after HR issues and being the point of contact for the various associations which Aworth Survey Consultants is a member of or accredited by.
“What I enjoy most about my job is being that first point of contact here, discovering what it is that person needs and helping them with that or pointing them in the right direction to the appropriate team member,” says Becky. “I pride myself on delivering really excellent customer service and making somebody’s first impression of Aworth as professional, friendly and helpful.”
She adds: “No day is ever the same and I love the variety and the fact that I’m really busy.”
When she was at school, Becky set her heart on a number of career options including being a teacher and also training as a midwife, however she always enjoyed art and crafts and that’s something she’s now enjoying in her spare time.
Becky recently invested in a Cricut machine and has used it for cutting paper and vinyl for her craft projects, which includes making cards. She also enjoys making jewellery and baking, as well as getting outside to run and walk her dog.
